Great day at the medieval christmas market

Saturday, November 29. 2008 21:15
Today, after some shopping me and my husky went to a christmas market. Actually we wanted to visit the one in Königstein, but silly me found the wrong "Königstein" in the north, rather then the one nearby. So we spontanously went to the christmasmarket at the Ronneburg. Was a great day out there and finally after such long time in bed was a very welcome change of curtains. Safe for the freezing cold it also was a lot of fun. We went walking through the relatively few visitors in medieval clothes and ate some tasty potato pastries and also found a great herbalist shop.
There we tries to find a special aroma, I realy love. It is one I smelled back in Erding in the Spa. There they have a huge house with a modern built stonehenge in it and the wood, in combination with the massive monolithic stoneblocks emits a special scent that touches something deep inside of me and makes me feel extremely drawn to it. When I was there with Tillikum and Sarno I couldn't get enougth of that scent grinns So... at the herbalist shop we tried to sniff all different wood types and narrowed it down to red ashwood or styrax. Funny thing was, that by accident I smelled a Cinamon flavour as well and nearly instantly jumped to it. It smelled so much like the one I remembered from there. After a long while spent there and a lot of fun we went from there with two cylinders of flavours and a happy wagging dwaggie, as my husky made those flavours as a christmas present for me :-)
After finding the flavours we went inside the keep to warm up a bit and got stuck at the candymakers shop. Tillikum never had seen how handcrafted candy was made.. so we spend a long while there, watching the old lady making candy by hand. And in the end went out with loads of free candy and funny tales about candymaking.
A beautiful weekend.. truely. Thank you, Tillikum snug

Down with the flu

Thursday, November 27. 2008 10:40
Oh well... the flu got me again. After hours of no end meetings in muffly rooms with lots of ill collegues I finally came down with the flu as well. Actually I am ill since last friday already, but wasn't up to writing anything big here.
Slowly I am on my mend again but sadly other strange things came to my ears these days. Seems like rumours about me are circulating again... so I just want to use the opportunity to sqash those.
One is telling, that I somehow enstrange me and the eurofurence members so that I will not come to EF again next year and will want to vanish from the fandom. Well... there is only one thing to say. Rubbish! I have no quarrel or any kind of enstrangement with anyone and will surely not vanish from the fandom. Also I will sure as hell be on next EF :-) I have no clue, why people have such fun in telling untruth about other. But hey... if they have nothing else to do... I pity them.

New fields

Tuesday, November 18. 2008 13:30
New fields... or riding in a strange place. Yesterday I went to test a new field and area for horseriding again. The place lacks - on the first glance - a lot of things one would usualy find in a horseclub or such. But it has a lot more of brains then one would find in most places. Its not a pretty and noble etiquettesque ( what a word actually ;-) ) place, but its one that has a lot to offer. A lot of free space where the horses can stay outside on the open fields instead of dusty and dark boxes and a lot of room to enjoy yourself and the horses.

They have 2 squares for riding and jumping as well, also with a "roof" ;-) The fun thing is - the roof actually is a highway bridge a nearly hundret meters above that keeps the rain off the ground, yet lets a lot of sun, air and noises through so that you actually feel as if you are in the open. Its a great place... not what one might think now "a riding quare under a highway?" giggles Well... was my first hought as well - but testing it and being there actually showed that its a great place and the highway is that far above tha one doesn't really notice.

Riding was a lot of fun there too with a lot of freedom on how you want to ride. It definitely is nothing for beginners as you dont have instructors there - but it definitely is something for one who wants to come back into it when already knowing what and how to do ;-) The horses are all well trained ( at least the one I was on, yesterday ) and the place does not lack a single bit in tidyness for the horses. Fresh open space, fresh food and lot of care. Great area for riding out and doing long rides on the weekend as well as lots of opportunities to have a rideshare with someones horse.

I am looking forward to go there again to deepen my mind about what I realy should think about that place. The downside was... that we had so much freedom... nearly seemed "uninterested"... but we will see....

RadioActive the first ;)

Sunday, November 9. 2008 08:22
Yesterday night we broadcasted our first online webradio show for the public and it was a blast! We never thougth of such enourmous positive response and so much listeners.

But lets start from the beginning. We had all our setup ready and all songs finished about only 10 minutes before the show and were extremely in a hurry. And when the show started we just instantly settled in. It was reat and all worked perfectly... .save for apache2 which seemed to have problem streaming datachunks of more then a megabyte in a row. So we had to switch on the backup server running on a different port after a while. Then it just purred like a young kitten.

Technically we had a little glitch in the later mid of the show when my ATM broke down. Thanks to the ******* in magenta who care a shit about their customers. Well... they lost one for sure. But about that, I will tell another time. So we switched to the backup internet connection. - Possibly the HSDPA connection through my cellphone, enabling our encoder laptop to connecto to the internet via w-lan through the cellphone using WMWiFiRouter ( cool tool, by the way. Read about it XDA Tweaks and Tools ).

Back to the content. We played a lot of "good old songs" with the hint of not playing the well known versions but the "not so well known" Originals of the songs, like instead of Rid Rocks - All summer long, we aired Warren Zevons - Werewolves of London - giving all the different bits and pieces of background about the songs that might be interesting and you wouldn't be able to find in wikipedia or such.

The most astounding thing was that we actually had two "listener parties"... Only being about 3 furries on those each was a rather small number, but at least we had listener "parties" ;-) In sum, we had a maximum of counted 19 unique stream listeners plus 4 using a streamripper or two conections plus the parties listeners of 5 - making a total top of 24 furries listening to us. Average we had 14 listeners. And that was pretty amazing to know. ( A funny sidefact was that Darkwing told me via eMail on that evening, that the same time the cologne furdance was broadcasting some kind of livestream too - so it was even the more interesting and cool that we actually had that much listeners )

We also managed to enable our listeners to do call ins for the show, that we happily did. We had three call ins from around the country, chatting with furries live in the show.

Thank you all for that great evening and that lot of fun ! We definitely will do another show soon ! This time with an emphasis on more selfproduced content ;-)

( I also have some pictures. But you need to login with your account to see them in a private post )
